They live in the neighbourhood and are huge fans of Disco. Every time the pass in front of our house, they have to stop and talk to Disco. Yesterday, they said they wanted to stem in and see my vegetable garden. I was delighted and immediately said an excited "Barri pa/Come on!" And this morning, the whole bunch landed up !
They wanted me to quiz them first, to see how many vegetables they could recognize. Well, with a few simple clues here and there, they were able to guess more than sixty percent, except for stuff like broccoli, parsley and Italian Basil. But then, they weren't completely wrong. For they said Kotambri/coriander for Parsley and ond tulasi jaati/A variety of tulasi for Italian basil. Smart boys !! :)
They were pretty impressed with my simple composting method in the earthen pots. One of the boys told me, they have a lot of trees and they compost the leaves in a pit in their backyard. A couple of the boys told me, they do grow a few vegetables like chillies and mint at home. But now, after seeing my patch, they would like to grow more varieties of vegetables, so their mothers could save some money. I found that very sweet !
What do I say...? :)
